Insights from a 2 day Physical Activity event

Day 1: ‘Connecting Research and Practice for Physical
Activity in Health and Care’
Day 2: ‘Aligning Data and Measurement to Support
Collective Action’

4-5 March 2026

Over two days in March 2026, more than 60 leaders from NHS England,  Sport England, Integrated Care  Systems (ICS), leisure operators, researchers, charities, and digital health innovators came together to move physical activity research, data, and measurement from fragmented projects to collective action.

Accelerated Design Events rapidly work through challenges and develop actions over a short time period. Rapid Insight© was used to turn facilitated discussions into areas of focus for moving to action. The Waters of Systems Change model helped us to explore structural (policies, resources, practices), relational (connections, power), and transformational (beliefs, mental models) barriers to change.

Focussing on four priority areas, we distilled the data from the two day event into an insights report, highlighting the opportunities for action and next steps.
